Devon Development Education - who are we?

Devon Development Education uses the skills of several professionals, all of whom have broad and varied experiences of working with children and young people in educational contexts. All the staff also have extensive experience of delivering training courses, workshops and CPD to teachers and others working in education. Here are a few of our colleagues...

Jane Habermehl

Jane is a trained Primary School teacher with over twenty five years experience with young children in a variety of roles including childminder and pre-school leader as well as a teacher. She was a founder member of STAR (Support and Training in Anti-Racist training for Early Years workers) in Bath in 1986 and later developed her own arts workshop for a multiracial School in Bristol called ‘Culture and Identity in the Community.’ She has worked as a volunteer teacher trainer in rural Kwa-Zulu-Natal and became a member of DDE in 2004 where she developed the Calabash Multicultural story tent. Jane is also a validated trainer for the Global Teachers Award  Jane loves to share stories with her two grandchildren and is a keen walker.


Ghee Bowman

GheeGhee is a trained teacher of English and Drama, with twenty years experience teaching & training adults and young people. He has worked overseas in many countries, including one year in Turkey and two years as a VSO volunteer in Egypt. He also worked for ICA:UK, doing group facilitation & training. Since joining DDE 7 years ago, Ghee has worked mostly on the programme of public events and co-ordinating the Cultural Champions programme, as well as doing lots of training for school staff. Now, Ghee is the project co-ordinator of the Heritage-Lottery funded Telling our Stories project. Aside from work, Ghee is an active member of the Woodcraft Folk, and is married with two teenage daughters.


Andrew Bell

Andrew BellAndrew is a former primary teacher who has been working as a global education consultant and writer for the last 10 years. His work has included developing teaching, educational and training resources for Comic Relief, Children in Need and the Open University amongst others. He currently coordinates DDEs CPD programme and is a validated trainer for the Global Teachers Award He also coordinates DDEs successful Model United Nations programme and organises Fairtrade school conferences and workshops  Andrew is a long time campaigner on environmental and development issues. He has previously lived in Africa and worked in India. He is married with two young daughters.
