Diversity in Person
Why we are Needed
The demand for Cultural Champions comes from the bottom and the top. Devon people are eager to hear about the county's diversity direct from the Cultural Champions themselves. But there is also a legislative climate that is working our way...
A Cultural Champion comes to visit
A Cultural Champion is a Devon resident from another culture or religion, who comes into the classroom (or other space) to give pupils an authentic, personal view of their culture. In this way, Devon children and Devon adults can learn about other cultures and people that live here, broadening their minds and breaking down barriers.
How Much Does it Cost?
The price for a Cultural Champion's workshop with your school/community group is £150 for a half day or £250 for a full day, plus travel and other necessary expenses (cooking ingredients, art materials etc if required). Occasionally we are asked if a Cultural Champion can assist at a meeting or give a single lesson, please contact us to discuss your exact requirements and the costs involved.
Arrange a Visit from a Cultural Champion
Please contact the Global Centre so that your requirements can be discussed with the Cultural Champions Coordinator. She can help advise on the appropriate Cultural Champion for your needs, she will then agree the date between you and the Cultural Champion and send you a booking form. Once this has been agreed, the Cultural Champion will liaise directly with you to agree the lesson plan/s and final details.
Why not become a Cultural Champion?
If you would like to become a Cultural Champion yourself please complete the form below or download, print and return an application form.download an application form from here. If you come from a Black or minority ethnic background, you are an adult and you live in Devon, we would love to hear from you.
