Dartmoor Challenge

June 21st raising money for Phonics Training

Please sponsor Chris Sargeant on this arduous 100 kms bike ride over Dartmoor who is raising money for the Food for Thought phonics programme in rural Ugandan schools. The money will be used to purchase Phonics Handbooks for teachers and/or phonics training. In the UK phonics is the main way of teaching children to read, write and pronounce words.

The Dartmoor Classic Sportive is an annual cycle ride, organised and run by Mid-Devon Cycling ClubThe event with a sell-out field of 4,000 riders is widely recognised as one of the most prestigious open-road Sportive’s in the UK, attracting cyclists from around the world!

Chris will be doing the Medio route – the middle-distance option. The route starts with a 2.3 mile neutralised segment from Newton Abbot racecourse to Clay Pits Way. Here his official ride time will begin. ‍After scenic climbs through Dartmoor, at 30 miles he will arrive at the famous Princetown Feed station. 10 miles on from Princetown, at 40 miles is the Closed Road Hill climb segment. After completing 64 miles he will return to the Newton Abbot racecourse where he will receive his well-earned medal.
