Sponsored Cycle for Food for Thought Phonics Programme – Sunday 21st June 2025
Chris’s Report: I successfully completed the Dartmoor Classic. My time was slightly slower than last year 6:08, but I had two punctures, one was definitely caused by a pothole! Had it not been for these enforced stops while I changed the inner tube, I would have been 10 or so minutes quicker than last year. The riding conditions were very good, although you needed plenty of water as the heat built up during the ride.

Sponsored Run for the Food for Thought Beekeeper Training programme – Saturday 17th January 2026
Thomas successfully completed The Fan Dance with Matt and Richard. The 24km route is the infamous SAS Selection Test which took them up and over Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales – and back

Beekeeping is a very valuable skill, as there is always a market for honey! This project will train two teachers from five Food for Thought schools in beekeeping and provide them with eight beehives for each school, Queen bees, a protective suit, hat and gloves. A group of young people will train in carpentry to make the bee hives, and be rewarded with training and a bee hive each. You can view photographs of a previous beekeeping training programme and bee hive making session.
Sponsored Cycle for Food for Thought training in sustainable organic agriculture for Ugandan Primary School Teachers – Sunday 22nd June 2025

Chris’s report: The ride was on a slightly different course than the previous classics I have done. The initial Haytor climb was slightly shorter, but the return leg from Princetown included an extra climb making the course a bit harder overall. Having left Newton Abbot in sunshine, the weather changed on Dartmoor to head winds and drizzle, making the roads quite greasy. I reached Princetown in approximately 3 hours, had a snack which included some delicious brownies and flapjacks at the food station. Leaving Princetown the weather picked up and the return leg had the benefit of a tail wind until the final few kilometres to Newton Abbott. I finished with a silver medal time of 5:50:09, annoyingly the Gold medal time was below 5:50.
