Celebrating Nigerian Independence Day
Saturday 12th September
We explored Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and historical journey with presentations from Pastor Professor Raphael Abiodun Adebayo who talked about Nigeria before the British colonization: Her governance, political systems, leadership structures and cultural traditions and Chiedozie Obia who discussed Nigeria’s Colonial Experience.
Emmanuel shared the history of African talking drums – which were used for communication, storytelling, and ceremonial purposes – with demonstrations of the various techniques. Dancing followed accompanied by drumming. The afternoon ended with a time to socialise and eat amazing Nigerian food.
The event was hosted by the Nigerian Community in Exeter.
