Youth Cultural Champions are secondary school students who have a different ethnic heritage background, African, Caribbean, Asian, Latino, European, Mixed, who are all trained to a high level to give presentations so that they can run sessions about their identity and culture.
The Youth Cultural Champions Programme was developed from the adult Cultural Champions Programme in response to an observed need, that our students of differing ethnicities were not able to bring their whole self and identity into school.
We give secondary school students a safe space to talk about, explore and be proud of their different family heritage and also to share any difficulties they may be facing due to racism and othering within the school setting.
Our Youth Cultural Champions have the opportunity to learn about each other and make presentations about who they are. They then deliver sessions to their peers, students in primary schools, their teachers and governors and at community events.
